Just outside of Tillamook, Oregon, Munson Creek drops to one of the most impressive waterfalls in Oregon's Coast Range. Munson Falls is the highest falls at 319 feet west of the Willamette River, and one of only a dozen or so falls in Oregon to drop over 300 feet.
The falls are located in Munson Falls State Park, and are accessed via a nice easy stroll through a lush forest. Currently only one of two former trails are maintained for accessing the falls, and due to recent storm damage, the trail end has been closed and the trail truncated by several hundred feet - though this seems to be a good thing as the trail now ends where the best view of the falls is had
instead of closer to the base where several trees obstruct the view.
Munson Creek and its falls were named for Goran Munson, a settler who moved to Oregon from Michigan and homesteaded along the banks of Munson Creek in 1889.
After viewing the falls we continued up to Tillamook and tasted some of the local cheese. After stopping in Medford Oregon at the Rogue Creamery, the cheese in Tillamook was good but not as good as the Blue Cheese in Medford!!
On Sunday, August 4th we are leaving the coast and heading inland to McMinneville to do some wine tasting!!
More from along the road later,
