June, Minnesota

Although most of our time in Minnesota was spent with family, we did manage to get in a little sight seeing....

We found the Summit Brewing Company. They offered tours so off we went to sample some home brew. The Summit Brewing Company is located along the river bluffs in St. Paul, just off West 7th Street however the brewing company had it beginning's in an old auto parts warehouse on University Avenue in St. Paul. The brewing company was founded with one goal, to bring back the remarkable craft beers once brewed throughout the Upper Midwest. An authentic brew house had to be shipped from Germany. The first keg of Summit Extra Pale Ale rolled out of the brewery, across University Avenue and into Johnny's Bar on September 25, 1986, placing Summit well ahead of a trend of craft brewing that would eventually sweep the nation. After learning about the brewery and the brewing process we were given a tour of the factory and then were invited to a beer tasting!!!!! Unlike most places that give you a "taste" we were given three tokens each, they were good for three samples that were six ounces each. The tour and the tasting were free. Unusual to say the least. The brewery has a beautiful bar that they serve from and if you did not care for beer or had children with you they offered Root Beer.... it was a fun afternoon!!!! They offer 10 varieties of beer (some are seasonal) from a pale ale to an oatmeal stout. Their slogan is "We only brew what we love to drink. Whatever's left over, we sell." I recommend the tour highly if you are ever in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area.

While we were in Minneapolis, our son-in-law Jeff knows that John and I enjoy NASCAR racing so he suggested that we go out to a dirt track that is located in Princeton, MN. Have to say it was a great deal of fun also. They have race after race, they keep the racing going on all the time. Angela, Jeff along with Michael (age5) and Abby (age 4) went along, we all had a great time. It was kind of seeing NASCAR at its beginnings!!!! With all the rain that we had encountered in Minnesota we were happy to have a nice evening for the races.

That is all for now!!! Hope you are all having a good summer! Remember that we love to hear form you also.

Love, Candy and Johnny
